Dr Robert Butler

Consultant Cardiologist

Year qualified:1991

Personal profile

I am an experienced cardiologist, having been a consultant for 6 years. I have led components of our local expansion within Stoke-on-Trent particularly regarding catheterisation lab space. I also have led our network development of a policy for heart attacks and for closing holes in the heart following strokes.

I undertake all forms of angioplasty including complex cases where patients have been turned down for cardiac surgery where appropriate.

I am involved in a number of national committees and lecture nationally on the role of intensive cholesterol management in angina and following heart attacks.

From a research point of view, I am interested in the role of endothelial progenitor cells and the role of statins in modifying their incorporation into injured arterial wall linings.
