Personal profile

Mr Richard Stead has been working as a consultant ophthalmologist at Queens Medical Centre since 2015. He qualified with a first-class honours degree in Optometry in 1997 from UMIST-now part of Manchester University, before pursuing a career in medicine.

He undertook his medical training at the University of Leicester followed by registrar training in ophthalmology at Nottingham. This was followed by a glaucoma fellowship at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre. He has a diverse range of publications and research particularly in his chosen speciality of glaucoma.

Clinical Interests

His primary interest is the management of complex glaucoma and phacoemulsification cataract surgery.  He is skilled in Minimally Invasive Glaucoma surgery (MIGs) and one of the few surgeons in the region specialising in glaucoma tube surgery.
