Having completed her specialist orthopaedic training in the North West region, Miss Akhtar undertook a foot and ankle fellowship at the internationally renowned Wrightington Hospital. During her orthopaedic training, she undertook research projects in the area of foot and ankle surgery which have been published in peer reviewed journals and received prizes both at nationally and internationally renowned orthopaedic meetings.
Miss Akhtar has been a full time NHS Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon working for the Pennine Acute NHS Trust since August 2014. Her elective NHS practise currently focuses on foot and ankle conditions and my practise encompasses the latest evidence based treatment options in this sub-specialty. Miss Akhtar has successfully treated sports persons at all levels, including a World Boxing Association lightweight champion.
Miss Akhtar has been an honorary senior lecturer for Edge Hill University and is currently a faculty member for a number of courses for orthopaedic speciality trainees and an educational and clinical supervisor for junior doctors in training.
