Mr Salman Mirza is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with special interest in retinal diseases (eg related macular degeneration & other macular diseases, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular diseases) at the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. Prior to that, he was a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre, Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.
He was comprehensively trained in West Midlands Higher Surgical rotation between 2002 to 2007. Subsequently he has completed fellowships in Medical Retina and Inflammatory Eye Disease.
He is a vastly expereinced surgeon having performed more than 7000 phacoemulsification cataract surgery procedures including difficult catracts. His specialism is surgery of diabetic cataracts and refractive cataract surgery under topical anaesthesia.
Salman has held several positions of responsibility such as Lead Consultant for Eye Accident & Emergency & Community Ophthalmology, Royal College of Ophthalmology Tutor for Ophthalmology trainees, Educational Supervisor for Foundation Year Doctors and served on the “Drugs & Therapeutic committee at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre. He is currently secretary of the Midlands Ophthalmological Society and Senior Academy tutor for medical students of University of Birmingham.
Salman is a keen teacher having organised several regional/national symposia as well as the prestigious Oculus Course. He has been Principal Investigator for several research clinical trials including COMRADE B & C, LUMINOUS and INJECT and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London.
