Personal Profile

Professor Jari is a Consultant Knee, Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Surgeon, an Honorary Professor at the University of Bolton and an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Orthopaedic and Trauma surgery at the University of Manchester.

In addition to sports surgery, he has a large practice in arthritis surgery, specialising in personalised minimally invasive total and half knee replacements and robotic knee replacements together with using advanced non-surgical arthritis treatments including stem cell injections.

He trained in Manchester and London, following which he was appointed to a Sports Medicine And Knee Fellowship in the USA for a year at a prestigious Sports Medicine clinic. 

He has been a Sports Medicine Consultant to the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and also provided cover to the 2001 World Police and Fire Games in Indianapolis. He was also a Medical Consultant to the USA Amateur Boxing Association. He works with elite, professional and international teams and athletes in various sports including rugby, football, netball and basketball.

His NHS practice (Salford Royal Hospital – University of Manchester Teaching Hospital) involves knee, lower limb and trauma surgery. 

He is a national and international speaker on knee surgery and sports injuries. He has a number of ongoing research studies in various aspects of lower limb surgery. His research commitment has included supervision of post-graduate doctors undertaking higher degrees. He also regularly supervises medical students, sports rehab students and International medical students and Fellows.

Clinical Interests

His clinical interests include: 
  • Robotic assisted (MAKO) Knee Replacement Surgery, having performed the first MAKO Total Knee Replacement in Manchester / The North West of England 
  • Arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery of the knee
  • Ligament reconstructive knee surgery – including Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions 
  • Cartilage transplantation in sports injuries and early arthritis 
  • Knee-cap surgery
