Personal Profile

Prof Sauid Ishaq is a consultant gastroenterologist and interventional endoscopist based at Dudley Group of Hospitals. He is nationally- accredited bowel cancer screening colonoscopist and specialises in advance endoscopy and gastrointestinal disorder such as gastrointestinal cancers, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, Barrett's Oesophagus and Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Coeliac disease, dietary intolerance, dyspepsia, Helicobacter Pylori infection, inflammatory bowel condition and anaemia. He is also a visiting Professor of BCU, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and member of the BSG and ESGE.

Prof Ishaq is well known for innovation in endoscopy. He has also introduced flexible endoscopic treatment of Zenker Diverticulum in UK ( Endoscopic treatment of zenker diverticulum - Russells Hall Hospital - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaxrVHE2Ou8&t=4s, and established National Zenker centre taking referral from England, Wales, Scotland and NI. He also introduced flexible endoscopic treatment for GERD with GEDX in UK  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXEXin7x4BM. He was also the first to carry out full thickness resection of early cancer in UK. He was awarded PhD for his novel work on Zenger diverticulum. In 2019 he introduced endoscopic treatment of Zenker Diverticulum in Japan. He acted as an advisor for NICE interventional procedures and acted as part of National clinical advisors to NCEPD: GI bleed study. He has published widely and act as reviewer to high impact scientific journals. He has authored/co-authored over 195 peer reviewed publications and textbook chapters. He is regularly invited to perform live endoscopy demonstrations and endoscopy training. He is regular invited faculty in national and international meetings. He is director of Birmingham International endoscopy symposium that provide platform for National and International expert speakers to come to Birmingham. He has strong collaboration with Fudan University China, Bezmi Alem University Istanbul, and St George’s University Grenada, Caribbean’s
