Mr Shantanu Shahane

Mr Shantanu Shahane is a Consultant Orthopaedic Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon at the Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He has completed a fellowship at Wrightington Hospital, a centre of excellence for surgery of the upper limb and a further six months as a fellow at the Cappagh Hospital, Dublin to obtain further training in surgery of the shoulder and elbow joints.

Mr Shantanu Shahane has also since visited various centres of excellence around the world including the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, USA), Fondren Clinic (Houston, USA), DeBeer clinic (Cape Town, South Africa) to further his knowledge of surgery of the shoulder and elbow joints. He is a on the board of reviewers for the journal ‘Shoulder and Elbow”. He is on the faculty for arthroscopic and open surgery courses for the shoulder and elbow joints in the UK and overseas.

He specialises in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder including shoulder decompressions, rotator cuff repairs, surgery for frozen shoulder and instability surgery. He also performs shoulder and elbow replacements for arthritic joints and has a special interest in trauma surgery including sports injuries of the shoulder and elbow.

Clinical Interests

Performs all types of arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder joint, including:

• Decompressions
• Excision of lateral end of clavicle
• Surgery for release of frozen shoulder
• Rotator cuff repair
•  SLAP and Bankart lesion repairs

He also performs open surgery of the shoulder and elbow joint including:

•  Joint replacement surgery

He is particularly interested in sports medicine related surgery involving the shoulder and elbow joints and treats numerous professional players suffering from shoulder and elbow pathologies.

He is also interested in all types of trauma surgery relating to the shoulder and elbow joint.
