Dr. Shanthi Paramothayan has been a Consultant Physician in Respiratory and General Medicine since 2001. She is currently working at Medway NHS Foundation Trust. Prior to this, she was a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Epsom and St. Helier NHS Trust for 14 years where she was, at different times, the Lead for Sleep Services, Lead for COPD and Lead for Lung Cancer.
Dr. Paramothayan was commissioned to write a textbook “Essential Respiratory Medicine” (Wiley-Blackwells) and was published in December 2018. This textbook is aimed at medical students, junior doctors, non-respiratory specialists, specialist nurses and allied health professionals.
Dr. Paramothayan has a Masters in Medical Education. She was an Honorary Senior Lecturer at St. George’s Medical School from 2005-2018 where she participated in the MBBS Examinations. While working at Epsom and St. Helier Hospital as a Consultant Respiratory Physician she was the Foundation Training Programme Director (2010-2012), the Director of Medical Education (2012-2015) and Associate Medical Director for Education (2015-2016). She was the Associate Foundation Quality Lead for Health Education from 2017-July 2018.
Dr. Paramothayan is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, and a PACES examiner. She is a Member of the Association of Medical Educators (ASMEE) and an elected Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Dr. Paramothayan has a Masters in Medical Law, undertakes medicolegal work and is an expert witness. She has several publications, including Systematic Reviews.
