Miss Sharmistha Guha is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at West Middlesex University Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust.

She graduated from India in 2000 and began her career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. She moved to London in 2004.

She trained in the Northwest Thames region of London Deanery. She developed her special interest in Early pregnancy and Acute gynaecology and took time out of her training to perform research in this field at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. She has carried out several multi-centered early pregnancy research projects including study in pregnancy of uncertain viability and pregnancy of unknown location and has several papers in peer reviewed journals to her credentials. She is a regular speaker in many national and international forums. Miss Guha is proficient in performing early pregnancy and gynaecology ultrasound. She did Post Graduate Certificate in Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy Ultrasound from King's College London in 2011.

She completed her training and obtained CCT in October 2013. She was appointed as a substantive consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at West Middlesex University Hospital in November 2013. The Trust merged with Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust since September 2015. Currently, Miss Guha practices at both sites – West Middlesex University Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

Miss Guha has a wide and extensive clinical and surgical experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She has done advanced training in the following specialist skills module:

  • Benign Gynaecological open and laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery
  • Acute gynaecology and Early pregnancy care
  • Advanced Labour Ward Management

Both sites of the Trust are busy units with 5000 babies born every year and the A&E are one of the busiest in the country.

Miss Guha has a varied work load with weekly gynaecology clinics, outpatient hysteroscopy and colposcopy clinics. She does theatre lists and labour ward sessions every week. She does scan sessions at Early pregnancy unit and gynaecology scans including gynaecology on calls at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Practising in both sites of this busy NHS Trust helps Miss Guha to maintain and develop her skills further to advanced level.
