Mr Appleton is a Consultant General and Gastrointestinal Surgeon at The Chiltern Hospital and The Shelburne Hospital. He qualified from University College and Middlesex Hospital School of Medicine in London in 1989, and his specialist training has involved time at the Chelsea & Westminster, Royal Marsden and Hammersmith Hospitals.
Mr Appleton initially undertook bariatric surgery training in 1995, whilst working at The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London with Professor Chris Wastell. Mr Appleton now performs around fifty bariatric procedures a year. He was appointed to his Consultant post in 2002 and has an extensive NHS clinical practice in both elective and emergency surgery, working at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust. In addition to obesity surgery, Mr Appleton specialises in keyhole surgery and has developed a highly successful laparoscopic day-case service.
