Mr Fogerty graduated with honours from Sheffield University Medical School in 2001. After a period of surgical training in Sheffield, he moved to West Yorkshire and was appointed to the Yorkshire Orthopaedic Higher Surgical Training Programme and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Tr & Orth) examination in 2011.
He was admitted onto the Specialist Register in 2013. At the end of his general orthopaedic training in Yorkshire, he undertook a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine, gaining in depth knowledge about the athlete and best treatments for their injuries. This earned him the qualification DipSEM(UK).
During 2013 he lived in Annecy in the French Alps and undertook a 12 month period of specialist training (fellowship) with world-renowned surgeon, Dr Laurent Lafosse. There he learnt first-hand the best and most modern techniques to treat shoulder and elbow problems. Whilst in France he also spent time with Dr Gilles Walch in Lyon, who is widely regarded as the modern-day master of the open Latarjet procedure.
Further upper limb experience was gained when he spent a month in Boston with Dr JP Warner at Massachusetts General Hospital. MGH was voted the number one hospital facility in the United States in 2012 by the U.S. News & World Report. Dr JP Warner is a shoulder specialist focussing particularly on revision (second time) joint replacement and tendon/muscle transfers for rotator cuff deficiencies.
On returning to the UK, he benefitted greatly from working in Leeds as Fellow to Mr Roger Hackney, Consultant Shoulder, Elbow and Sports Surgeon. He was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust in June 2014. There he has a general trauma practice but on the planned care side he offers a comprehensive shoulder and elbow service. He adopts a pragmatic approach to problem solving, tailors the solution to the individual and ensures the patient understands and can influence their treatment journey wherever possible.
He is keen to explore all options regarding a patient’s treatment, offering both non-operative and operative therapies where appropriate. His elective practice includes all arthroplasty (joint replacement) and arthroscopy (key-hole) surgery to the shoulder and elbow. In particular he offers both anatomic (traditional) and reverse polarity shoulder replacements. On the arthroscopic side he is a specialist in rotator cuff surgery and instability treatments, including the arthroscopic Latarjet procedure.
He also offers open surgery for conditions around the elbow such as tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and ulnar nerve entrapment.
He is invited as faculty on many regional and national courses and is involved in the training of trainee surgeons in the Yorkshire region. He is actively involved in audit and research as part of clinical governance within the NHS Trust and has several publications in the surgical literature.
He is recognised by all the major insurance companies and, for self-funding patients, a package price for treatment can be provided on request.
Mr Fogerty grew up in the North-West of England and his passion for the outdoors drew him to Yorkshire. He lives locally and has a busy home life with my wife and two small children. He enjoys spending time with his family and (almost!) any outdoor sport, but preferably combining the two.
