What is oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS)?

OMFS is a unique surgical specialty combing the skills of surgery and dentistry. The specialty undertakes treatment in the anatomical area of the face, mouth and jaws which allows truly specialist expertise of the diseases and treatments in this area. To become an oral and maxillofacial surgeon Mr Hodges has undertaken 20 years of training. During this time he has gained degrees in dentistry and medicine. He has been awarded fellowships both in dental surgery and general surgery by the royal college of surgeons of England.

Training

Mr Hodges undertook his medical and dental degrees at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals. He then was awarded a place for general surgical training on the competitive London rotation at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital. He then completed his specialist oral and maxillofacial surgery training on the prestigious London, Surrey and Sussex training programme and was awarded the FRCS in 2009.

Fellowships

Mr Hodges then undertook further advanced training during his fellowship in reconstructive cosmetic surgery. This competitive fellowship is only given to the most outstanding surgeons at the end of the training and is awarded by the Joint committee on surgical training.
