Stephen qualified in 1993 with a MB ChB from University of Bristol. In 1994 he became a lecturer in anatomy at the University of Glasgow which he held for one year.
Stephen went on to complete his basic surgical training and research between 1995 and 2000 and then his higher surgical training between 2000 and 2005 where he specialised in general and vascular surgery.
In 2005, Stephen became a Locum Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Southern General Hospital and in 2006 he moved to NHS Lanarkshire where he still works as Consultant Vascular Surgeon.
Stephen became Deputy Clinical Director for surgery at NHS Lanarkshire in 2006 and then moved on to Lead Clinician for Vascular Surgery NHS Lanarkshire in 2011 to 2012.
In 2009, Stephen was appointed Vice-Chairman of Ross Hall Medical Advisory Committee and then became Chairman in 2015.
In 2007, he opened the Glasgow Vein Clinic as Founder and Lead Clinician which now has a firmly established reputation in providing modern treatment practices and technologies.
Since July 2017, Stephen has been the Lead Clinician for Vascular Surgery for NHS Lanarkshire.
