I am a Consultant Urologist with nearly 30 years of Urological experience, My Surgical Training was in Manchester and Edinburgh where I was appointed Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Urologist/Renal Transplant Surgeon, University of Edinburgh in 1993.
In 1995 I moved to Yorkshire and was appointed Consultant Urologist and Clinical Tutor in Surgery to the Leeds Teaching Hospitals where I have been since.The post involves formal and informal teaching and training of all grades of doctors and nurses. Over the last 20 years I have held a variety of roles including Urological Chair of the Yorkshire Cancer Network and Committee member of the BAUS Section of Oncology. I am currently Audit and Governance Lead for the Urology Department. My clinical and research interests have been mainly in the area of Urological Cancer but over the course of time I have been involved with nearly all Urological procedures. Currently with a colleague I am developing a programme for Robotically Assisted Radical Cystectomy (removal of the bladder and reconstruction of the urinary tract for cancer). I was awarded an MD Thesis for research on the mechanism of action of BCG vaccine therapy for Bladder Cancer in 1990. In 2009 I was awarded a Department of Health grant for national training of Urological Cancer Multidisciplinary Teams. I have organised several major live surgical meetings. I have always been involved in Clinical Research and have published over sixty original papers, editorials or book chapters.
