Sushma Dhar-Munshi has been working as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust in Mansfield since 2001.She qualified as the ‘Best outgoing medical graduate' in 1986 from the University of Jammu in India. She concluded her postgraduate training in Ophthalmology at the prestigious Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, India, in 1989. She worked as a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Bombay and Saudi Arabia. After becoming a ‘Fellow’ of the Royal college of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1994 she subsequently undertook her ‘Higher specialist training’ at St George’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London.
She has extensive experience in all kinds of Eye disorders including Phacoemulsification – small incision cataract surgery, Medical Retinal disorders especially Diabetes Eye Disease, Age Related Macular Degeneration and Retinal Vein Occlusion.
Mrs. Dhar-Munshi has been instrumental in setting up the Medical Retina Service at Kings Mill Hospital in 2003 and has since streamlined it to include newer modalities of treatments like Anti VEGF Drugs and Steroid Implants for various retinal conditions.

She has published extensively on topics in Medical Retina and is the Principal Investigator for The TANDEM Trial for treatment of WET ARMD at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust. Mrs. Dhar-Munshi is a regular, invited speaker on Diabetic Retinopathy at the RCOPhth Seminars and has co-authored a book on Retinal Imaging in 2014.
Mrs. Dhar-Munshi is an Examiner to the Royal college of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Ophthalmic Skills Course Instructor for the Microsurgical Skills Course at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
She is also the Current Head of Service of Ophthalmology at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust.
