Mr Syed is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon, with a special interest in foot, ankle, hip, knee and lower limb surgery. His current NHS appointment is at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Scotland.
Mr Syed received his primary medical training from the prestigious King Edward Medical University in Lahore, Pakistan, from where he graduated in 1996. He completed his basic surgical training in Oxford Deanery Rotation and also at Raigmore General in Inverness. He completed his Higher Surgical training at hospitals based in Oxford & Cambridge Deaneries and Jersey.
Mr Syed received fellowship training in Foot and Ankle Surgery, Lower Limb Arthroplasty, Sports Surgery and Trauma. He received this training at University Hospital Wales & the University Hospital Llandough. He then went on to receive advanced training from France (University of Strasbourg), Germany (Munich and Frankfurt) and the Netherlands (Academic Medical Centre, Amsterdam). Besides this, Mr Syed completed a travelling fellowship at Klinikum Hoechst in Frankfurt.
Mr Syed has been the Honorary Lecturer for University College London and is currently an Academic Tutor for University of Edinburgh.
He has published extensively in both trauma and elective orthopaedic. He has around 28 publications comprising full articles and abstracts. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Clinical Research and his work has been published in prestigious Foot & Ankle Clinics of North America.
Mr Syed has taught and examined medical students from University College London (UCL) Medical School & Cardiff Medical School, and he has served on the UCL medical School Admission Panel. He has been a faculty member of Charing Cross Ex-Fix course & Imperial Femoral Nailing Course for Orthopaedic Surgeons/registrars in training. He lectured as a guest speaker at the prestigious Royal Society of Medicine, London. He has served as faculty member for the MRCS Specialist Course and Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Surgical Skills Heats. Mr Syed was invited as a lecturer at Oxford deanery’s overseas doctor’s induction programme and contributed to MMC implementation as part of Oxford deanery working group.
He has completed MSc in Sports & Exercise Medicine from University of Bath, after undertaking a research thesis.
Mr Syed’s passion and sub specialist interest in treatment of lower limb conditions, took him on the path of serving as the Team Doctor for England Football Team, England XI/England National Squad for UEFA Regions Cup (Guernsey, Jersey & IOM (Isle of Man) National Football Teams) from 2008 to 2017.
Besides this Mr Syed, has worked as Jersey Derby Doctor, Official doctor for ECCA (English Cross-Country Athletics) and also covered Pomphrey Trophy at Silverstone racing track. He has travelled with English National Football teams on “international tours of duties” to Ireland, Malta, Poland, Croatia, Albania, Italy / San Marino, Slovakia & Romania.
Mr Turab Syed believes in providing the top care to his patients by having a patient centred approach and his ethos is that by involving patients in their individualised care plans not only results in good clinical outcome but is vital for their wellbeing.
