Dr Patel trained and conducted research in liver diseases at the institution of Liver Studies, King’s College, London and has an interest in acute and chronic liver disease, such as hepatitis, fatty liver disease, Primary Biliary Cirrhosis, Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, Haemachromatosis and alcohol related disease.
He also has conducted research at Imperial College, London and is a specialist in inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome and functional disorders. He has specialist skills in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and manages all upper gastrointestinal diseases including hepato-pancratico-biliary disease and functional disorders of the upper Gastrointestinal tract.
He is also lead of the nutrition service at his NHS hospital and treats malabsorption syndomes, nutrition disorders and small bowel disorders.
He is also on the specialist register for general Internal Medicine and has a high level of competency in managing disease in many specialities, including Acute Medical, High Dependency and Intensive Care Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Renal Medicine, Endocrinology, Cardiology, Allergy and Immunology, Elderly care.
Dr Patel is committed to high quality and safe care, and is Patient Safety Lead at his NHS hospital and has overseas experience having worked at University of Illinois, Chicago, USA in the area of GI Medicine
