Mr Awad is Lead Surgeon for both the ‘transcatheter aortic valve implantation’ (TAVI) & the ‘mechanical circulatory support for acute and chronic heart failure’ programmes at Barts Heart Centre (NHS). His other specialist interests include major aortic surgery and complex cardiac surgery including redo coronary artery bypass surgery, minimal access aortic valve repair & replacement and mitral valve repair. In addition, he has an interest in surgery for benign and malignant lung, pleural and mediastinal disease and in video assisted thoracoscopy.
Mr Awad has excellent clinical results, as confirmed by the UK Healthcare Commission. As a consequence, he receives many referrals from the Middle East and also travels nationally and overseas to train local surgeons. Mr Awad is regularly invited to lecture and demonstrate new techniques and he has given numerous lectures in Europe, Japan, the USA and the Middle East. He has published widely in Circulation, The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, The Annals of Thoracic Surgery and the European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
His contributions to the specialty have earned him a position in the Marquis Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, among the world's most respected works of reference recognizing those whose achievements place them at the forefront of an evolving healthcare system.
