A Cataract is the clouding of the lens in your eye. Normally your lens is clear and helps focus the light entering your eye. Developing a cataract will cause your sight to become cloudy and misty. Cataracts can affect one or both eyes.
Cataracts are treated by surgery, during which the cloudy lens is removed and replaced by an artificial lens. Cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed procedures in the UK.

If you have vision impairment and want to remove or reduce your need to wear vision aids such as glasses or contact lenses, laser eye surgery might be the answer.
As the name suggests, the operation uses lasers to surgically alter your eyes, improving their function. The two main types are LASIK eye surgery and LASEK eye surgery.

Lens replacement surgery, also known as refractive lens replacement surgery or lens exchange surgery, is where an ophthalmic surgeon replaces the natural lens in your eye with an artificial lens.

Implantable contact lens surgery in Scotland
An implantable contact lens (ICL) is a soft, flexible implant which is implanted in between the natural lens and iris to help improve vision.
The ICL will improve vision like a traditional contact lens but doesn't need removed daily or cleaned, meaning there is significantly less upkeep than with traditional contact lenses.
Glaucoma treatment in Scotland
Glaucoma is a common eye condition where the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain, becomes damaged. It is usually caused by fluid building up in the front part of the eye, which increases pressure inside the eye. Glaucoma can lead to loss of vision if it's not diagnosed and treated early.
There are various treatment options for glaucoma, including selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) and iStent injections, and your consultant ophthalmologist will help you decide what's best for your personal circumstances.
