In 2016/17 12.5 million working days were lost due to work-related stress, depression or anxiety in the workplacei and with increasingly demanding and changing jobs, it’s no surprise that workplace stress is affecting a lot of people. However, there are some techniques you can adopt to help you cope better. In this article, we explain how hypnosis can be very useful in the fight against stress at work.
Is corporate stress affecting you? If so, you aren't alone.
Businesses can be a source of pressure, anxiety, no matter where you are on the employment hierarchy.
Whether you’re in senior management or have just started your first job, stress can affect anyone, at any level of an organisation. Colleagues may also be suspicious that a person who is absent is simply 'making it up' which can then make it even more difficult for the absent employee to return. This can build on the stress and anxiety, and in turn, contribute to the overall problem.
Many people will continue working until they quite literally have a breakdown and find they are unable to function and even routine decisions become a challenge. Anxiousness can typically become a factor and even the slightest bit of additional stress can create a downward spiral. It is often at this stage, when productivity is compromised, that the situation comes to the attention of the organisation.
What can you do to overcome stress at work?
An effective way to help combat stress in the workplace is by trying hypnosis therapy. Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness and can be used to access the subconscious where behaviours, fears or phobias can be changed. This type of psychological therapy is designed to tackle the underlying thoughts, feelings and beliefs which are generating or maintaining stress, as well as teaching coping systems for the present.
Usually it is the case that stress is attributed to an underlying anxiety or past event that's still causing emotional problems and the stress maybe nothing to do with the external conditions the employee finds themselves in right now.
An HPC registered Psychologist will usually seek out any underlying problems and aim to remove or change the effect it is having on the worker's psychological mind, as well as teaching the worker how to relax properly. The techniques used can help the person to relieve themselves of stress in their current working environment, and also in other areas of their life.
