Expert cosmetic services from a team of specialists.
Plastic surgery involves two areas; the reconstruction side, which involves skin cancer, burns, trauma, abdominal wall reconstruction, hand injuries and facial reconstruction.
You also have the cosmetic side.
Our cosmetic surgeons ‘wear quite a broad hat’, says our Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Cosmetic Surgery, offering a wide range of surgeries, including:
The procedures above fall under ‘body contouring’, particularly in patients that have lost a lot of weight after bariatric surgery or their own dieting.
The clinic here at Albyn also covers facial aesthetic, with non-surgical facial aesthetics (for example, facial fillers) being a key treatment.
Surgical procedures include:
Two Consultations
It is now regarded best practice, that for all cosmetic surgery, patients should have two appointments. You will visit us for their first appointment, before having a ‘cooling-off’ period to decide whether treatment is for you. Your second appointment will be scheduled for two months later.
The first appointment follows a ‘fact-finding’ approach, to allow the Consultant to find out what your needs and expectations are. He will assess the you and see whether he agrees with what you believes the issue is. An examination will take place and our Consultant will work out if your request can be met.
This is driven both on what can be offered, and your wished– and whether the expectation [from the patient] is realistic, or if there are any other issues which need to be factored in before surgery.
The Second Consultation
At your second appointment, the Consultant will go through the process again. Our Consultant answer any questions you may have, go over what has been discussed at the first appointment and reassess to see if you are still keen to go ahead with treatment.
In some instances, other psychological components may drive the your desire for a particular treatment. This may mean our Consultant will need to seek the opinion of a psychologist and determine whether it is ethically correct to offer the surgery and to evaluate any potential vulnerabilities you may have.
Diagnostics
In terms of diagnostics, there are several things our Consultant may do as part of the consultation process.
For breast reduction surgery, he may check you are within the correct age group and would consider a mammogram. For revision implant surgery, he may need to look at scans or learn more about previous implant surgery.
Those with abdominal wall hernias may require imaging of the abdominal wall, while weight loss patients often need blood tests, to check they are not nutritionally depleted.
