BMI will shortly become the first private group to offer oncology e-prescribing across all 30 of its hospitals providing chemotherapy services.
The service will be rolled out over the next 12 months and will offer significant benefits to patients, prescribers, pharmacists and nurses.
These benefits include maximising patient safety and improved medicines management, a more attractive proposition for oncology consultants, a single standardised prescribing model for chemotherapy and wider business opportunities for BMI hospitals.
The move also paves the way for e-prescribing to be introduced in other specialities across the BMI estate in future.
Following a rigorous selection process BMI Healthcare has chosen to partner with iQemo. All 30 BMI sites offering chemotherapy aim to be using the modern and intuitive new system by summer 2016, following initial pilot studies this year.
Jill Watts, BMI Healthcare CEO, said: “Consultants, insurers and commissioners recognise the advantages of e-prescribing, particularly around patient safety.
“The paperless, web-based solution offered by iQemo is an important development for BMI Healthcare which underlines our continued investment in the business for the benefit of our patients and partners, and underpins the continued growth of our oncology services.”
