The Early Pregnancy Clinic at BMI Bishops Wood Hospital is a dedicated service for couples who have experienced recurrent miscarriages. Studies have shown women who have had recurrent miscarriages are more likely to have a successful pregnancy if they feel well cared for and are closely examined by weekly or alternate weekly ultrasound examinations at a specialised miscarriage clinic.
Led by leading consultant gynaecologist Miss Awala, the service is supported by a team of specialist radiographers at our imaging department at the hospital.
The Early Pregnancy Clinic is able to provide a range of private early pregnancy services including:
- Advice, support and information
- Consultant gynaecologist appointments
- Pregnancy tests
- Early pregnancy scans
- Early Pregnancy Problems
- A full range of investigations
- A full range of treatment options
As spontaneous miscarriage is a common problem in pregnant women, if there is evidence of vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain and/or history of miscarriage, an early referral to the Early Pregnancy clinic would be appropriate.
Ectopic pregnancies are more likely to occur in women with a history of pelvic adhesions endometriosis, damaged fallopian tubes and undergoing IVF. Should a patient have symptoms of pelvic pain, rapid bleeding or if there is a high risk, an early referral to the clinic would be appropriate.

Our dedicated team during the patient’s appointment are able to provide advice and information on the range of antenatal services.
Appointments can be made to supplement your NHS care, although you will require a GP referral for ultrasound and foetal medicine services.
Standard pregnancy services are not normally covered by your private medical insurance policy but it is possible to pay for this yourself.
