At BMI Carrick Glen Hospital, we know how busy life can be and how difficult it sometimes is to get a timely GP appointment that suits you and your schedule.
The hospital’s private GP service does not have a waiting list. So, you can access a doctor offering the highest quality care speedily and efficiently and with fewer limits on the time you spend with them.
Our private GPs provide extended appointment times to put your mind at ease about your symptoms, treat you, or refer you for specialist diagnostic tests such as x-rays and blood tests at the hospital – with results often available in 48 hours.
As well as treating all the conditions you would expect, our GPs can also refer you to other consultants within the hospital if appropriate. This includes orthopaedic surgeons, dermatologists, gynaecologists, and general surgeons.
You can see our GPs at times convenient for you, whether that’s during the day or in the evening.
Our private GP service can deal with everything your family doctor would cover. Examples include abdominal pain, joint problems, women’s conditions, high and low blood pressure, general malaise, sore throats, sinus infections, and tonsil infections.
Some will have clinical interests in addition to general practice services, such as women’s health, aesthetic treatments, or heart issues.
At an appointment with one of our private GPs you are not rushed, so there’s ample time to discuss your medical concerns.
Fewer time constraints also mean our GPs can certify things like mortgage insurance and life assurance or issue a visa for travel. They can also carry out HGV medicals, pre-employment medicals and report on employees’ fitness for work to employers.
Your private GP works in a hospital equipped with high-quality diagnostics. Our equipment includes an x-ray suite, ECG (electrocardiogram) to monitor your heart’s electrical activity, hearing tests, eye checks, ultrasound scans and blood tests.
They also have access to our sister hospital, BMI Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow, if they want to arrange exercise testing, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan or computerised tomography (CT or CAT) scan to see detailed images of your body’s insides.
Should your diagnostic results show you need further treatment, our GPs can refer you to specialists in all kinds of medical fields, from physiotherapists to heart experts (cardiologists) at the same hospital.
Initial private GP appointments range from £170 to £200.
When you arrive at the hospital, our reception team will welcome you warmly, show you to our outpatient waiting area and offer you a cup of tea or coffee. You won’t have to wait long before your private GP comes to greet you and show you into their clinic.
Your GP will examine you as required, whether it’s listening to your chest with a stethoscope, looking at your ears, nose and throat with various instruments, or investigating lumps and bumps.
They can also complete medicals and occupational health assessments for work and issuing visas and travel vaccinations. Depending on the job, an occupational medical examination might involve a urine test, blood pressure test, eye health check, a breathing check, and a hearing test.
Our hospital is fully equipped and staffed with caring and professional medical and administrative teams offering individualised care. Your GP may also arrange scans such as MRIs or CT at our sister hospital, BMI Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow.
Your GP will do their best to diagnose your problem there and then and give you a treatment plan.
Their expertise is also in spotting anything that might require further treatment and identifying the right specialist for a follow-up. After an initial consultation, your GP may book you in for diagnostic tests or, if the results of tests warrant further investigation, book another appointment for you to get advice from a consultant who specialises in the field relevant to your condition.
You can book your consultation with an experienced private doctor at a time that’s convenient for you and receive a tailored, individual treatment or referral plan.
When you’re ill or worried about something, you don’t want to wait too long to see a medic. At BMI Carrick Glen Hospital, you’ll get the time and space you need to discuss all your concerns with a private GP.
