For the majority of people, varicose veins are physically harmless. While the above symptoms can be annoying, often, there are no symptoms at all. However, as they become more widespread, they can result in long-term damage to the skin, especially around the ankle.
Types of Varicose Veins:
If you are suffering from varicose veins, your vascular surgeon will be able to discuss the various investigative diagnostics required for a fast and accurate diagnosis. We routinely conduct further investigations on patients experiencing the above, utilising a duplex ultrasound scan.
In the vast majority of cases, the consultant performs a duplex ultrasound during the consultation. This is a common, non-invasive examination of your veins, helping your vascular surgeon to make an accurate diagnosis and outline a tailored treatment plan. This scan will be completed with a chaperone present (usually one of the outpatient nursing staff).
The results are immediate and you can discuss the next steps with your consultant. If you agree with your consultant that you’d like a varicose veins procedure, they will discuss the various options with you and outline the pros and cons of each treatment.
You will also be able to agree upon a date for your surgery, offered at a time and day that suits you. Surgery will take place at our sister hospital, BMI Ross Hall Hospital, in Glasgow.
There are various types of varicose vein treatment available:
Almost all patients will undergo vein treatment as either an outpatient or day case. This means you can go home the same day as your treatment. If your procedure is carried out in theatre, you’ll be offered a comfortable, private room for both before and after your treatment.
The team at BMI Ross Hall Hospital will strive to make sure your time at the hospital is as comfortable as possible, ensuring you receive a timely diagnosis and comprehensive, bespoke vascular treatment.
For the various types of vascular conditions and varicose veins, the service offers advanced minimally-invasive surgical procedures to ensure a fast and effective recovery.
