If you are diagnosed with bladder or kidney stones a consultant urologist will advise on the best course of treatment depending on the severity of your condition as well as your overall health. Treatment options include medication, laser surgery and keyhole surgery.
To aid the diagnosis of bladder conditions your consultant urologist may investigate using a cystoscope (small camera inserted into the urethra). A cystoscopy can be carried out under local anaesthetic in our outpatients department.
There are many symptoms associated with prostate disease including urinary retention and urinary urgency. If you are referred to a consultant urologist they will investigate the health of your prostate with blood tests (PSA) and digital rectal examination (DRE). You may also require prostate biopsy, urinalysis and MRI scans.
