Director of Clinical Services
BMI Goring Hall Hospital

Each day we are faced with new challenges and I am proud at the way my team addresses them

Can you tell us a little about yourself, background and current role?

I was delighted to join the team here at Goring Hall in 2012 after five years as a Director of Nursing for BMI in London.  The hospital and team have always had a good reputation and my current role is to lead all clinical services to ensure that care needs are met.

Describe a typical day/week at BMI Goring Hall Hospital for you?

My day starts early so that I can be available to plan the day’s activities with my clinical team.  I ensure that I walk the floor on a daily basis and know each member of my team by name.

There is not one day that is the same.  Each day we are faced with new challenges and I am proud at the way my team addresses them.

What aspects of your role do you enjoy the most?

Healthcare is constantly changing with different priorities and in my role it is essential that we are flexible whilst maintaining excellent care standards. I love the pace and working with a dedicated team of people.

How does your role benefit the patients of the hospital?

I wish I could spend more time delivering direct patient care, but I trust my team implicitly to deliver this to the high standards we strive for.  I am here to support patients, staff and consultants in the events that arise from day to day.

What has been your biggest achievement at BMI Goring Hall Hospital?

Over the past five years, with the help of my team, the hospital has grown considerably in the number of patient attendances.  We are now a busy hospital that runs efficiently to meet the needs of all our patient groups.

Gary and BenitaGary with Daycare Unit Sister Benita On a personal note, I enjoy growing my staff and working with such a committed team.

What activities do you enjoy outside of work?

Balancing work and life can be a challenge, but I recognise the importance of doing other activities that benefit the wider community.  I have worked for several charities in my spare time that support learning disabilities and young people and I am also involved in community projects.

I recently got married and am enjoying married life and the rewards that this brings.

Thanks for your time, Gary.
