Hip pain can be debilitating, impacting your relationships, social life, and even your mental health. At BMI Hendon Hospital in North London, we offer a variety of effective treatments for hip pain. These include:

Hip replacement

Hip replacement surgery can effectively reduce joint pain and improve mobility and function in your hip joint. Your Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon will recommend a hip replacement operation if you have significant damage to your hip from an accident or injury or from a condition such as arthritis.

Depending on your condition, you will undergo either partial hip replacement surgery (also known as a hemiarthroplasty), or total hip replacement surgery (also referred to as an arthroplasty). During total hip replacement surgery, both your femoral head (the top of your thigh bone) and acetabulum (the socket in your pelvis) will be removed and replaced with an artificial component, also known as a prosthesis. During partial hip replacement surgery, only your femoral head will be removed and replaced with a prosthesis.

Hip arthroscopy surgery

Hip arthroscopy helps diagnose and treat a range of hip problems. During this ‘keyhole’ procedure, your Consultant will make a few small incisions in your hip. They will then insert a small camera to examine the inside of your joint. This can help your Consultant diagnose your hip problems. Some treatment options can be performed arthroscopically during this procedure, with surgical instruments inserted through small incisions to treat damage to your hip.

Hip resurfacing

Hip resurfacing is a type of surgery to replace your damaged hip joint. During this procedure, the damaged surfaces of your femur head (the top of your thighbone) and your acetabulum (the socket in your pelvis) are reshaped and replaced with a cover. Hip resurfacing helps significantly reduce pain and improve your mobility.

Hip injection treatment

Hip injection treatment, also known as steroid injection treatment or corticosteroid injection treatment, can be used to diagnose and treat a range of hip problems. Steroids are injected into the affected joint, reducing pain and inflammation in your hip.

All of the above treatment options help reduce hip pain and improve your mobility, helping you feel like yourself again. Your Orthopaedic Consultant will help determine which treatment option is best for you.
