BMI Mount Alvernia Hospital, in Guildford, has been awarded the prestigious JAG (Joint Advisory Group) accreditation for its high-quality gastrointestinal endoscopy services.
The report highlighted how the hospital’s services are delivered in a safe, well-governed hospital.
Hosted by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), the accreditation scheme works with Gastrointestinal Endoscopy teams to identify areas for development and drive continuous improvement.
The accreditation provides Mount Alvernia patients with confidence and assurance that they will receive high quality care in a safe environment, which meets a rigorous quality framework set out by JAG.
Aligned closely with the Care Quality Commission’s fundamental standards and five key lines of enquiry, the accreditation standards are centred on a comprehensive set of measures covering patient experience, clinical quality, workforce and training.
Consultant General Surgeon, Mr Iain Jourdan, who leads the hospital’s endoscopy service said, “I’m so pleased to see that Mount Alvernia has been recognised for the quality of its endoscopy service, as embodied in the JAG accreditation. It should affirm to patients that our endoscopy services are safe, efficient and of the highest quality. The team has done an excellent job in the work undertaken to achieve the accreditation standards.”
JAG Accreditation Chair, Dr Chris Healey said, “We congratulate the team for the high standard of achievement, and for their hard work during the accreditation process.”
This accreditation has been awarded for five years, subject to successful completion of an annual review.
The current Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) accreditation scheme was established in 2005 and, along with the Global Rating Scale (GRS), has supported endoscopy services across the UK to focus on standards and identify areas for development.
The scheme is regarded as one of the most innovative and effective in the healthcare sector, and has been used as a model and source of inspiration for similar schemes both here and overseas.
