Staff and consultants at BMI Mount Alvernia Hospital, in Guildford, are fighting cancer by taking part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Care.

The hospital, in Guildford, takes part in the event annually. Organiser Leon Newth said that Macmillan was a charity close to colleague’s hearts and the whole hospital was proud to support in whichever way they could.

“We see every day the effect that cancer can have on individuals and families, and we also see the amazing work of Macmillan,” he said. “This World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is a time for us to come together over a cake and a cuppa, and to raise some much-needed funds to support their work.”

Staff from across the hospital were pleased to add to the baking.

Consultant Dr Alexandra Stewart, said: “As a cancer specialist myself, I know how much my patients are supported by Macmillan and how much they appreciate that support. The fact that I have to eat cake is a happy bonus, and a challenge that I gracefully accept!”
