At Mount Alvernia Hospital we admit patients for a wide range of medical and surgical procedures. All patients are admitted to Mount Alvernia under the care of a Consultant Surgeon or Physician of their choice. The hospital is able to draw on the expertise of these experienced consultants who chose to bring their practice to the hospital.
The hospital has 11 consulting rooms and three modern well-equipped operating theatres. The newly installed specialised Stryker theatre is designed to be ergonomic in order to create the optimal operating environment, and can be quickly transitioned to accommodate open as well as minimally invasive procedures. Equipment is ceiling mounted, providing improved efficiency and ergonomics. Images are displayed on multi-function HD flat screen monitors also capable of showing CTs, DVDs or USBs. The theatre is also the first of its kind in Europe to use new shadow-less lamps.
The Imaging department offers the latest in imaging technology with a 128 slice CT scanner and 1.5 Tesla MRI Scanner, both among the most modern equipment available. As well as general X-ray, MRI and CT scanning, the hospital has ultrasound and osteoporosis screening.
The hospital has a well established cardiology department with experienced staff whose comprehensive list of diagnostic tests include: resting and stress electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, carotid artery ultrasound scanning and pharmacological stress testing for those patients who cannot exercise on a treadmill.
The physiotherapy department offers a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient service. The department is staffed by a team of Chartered Physiotherapists and has a spacious, fully equipped exercise area and five private treatment rooms. In addition to general physiotherapy treatments we offer a number of specialised services including sports injury - with computerised muscle testing, acupuncture, back and neck care, Women's Health including bladder dysfunction, domiciliary physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
The hospital also has a new and dedicated ambulatory care unit. The spacious suite offers excellent facilities and includes two endoscopy/minor operations rooms, a six bay recovery area, a dedicated reception and waiting room, a consulting room and a gynaecology and urology minor procedures room.
The purpose built Pharmacy department has a large clinical area for the six strong team of Pharmacists and Technicians to carry out their duties. The hospital also has a dedicated on site Pathology department offering fast, reliable on-site diagnosis for a wide range of pathology investigations. Test results are available to the referring Consultant or GP on the same day by fax, e-mail or courier.
The main patient waiting area has a café serving hot and cold drinks and snacks. Books, newspapers and magazines are also available for patients waiting to see their consultant.
These facilities combined with the latest in technology and on-site support services, enable our consultants to undertake a wide range of investigations and operations. Consultants have the support of caring and highly trained nursing and allied healthcare professionals as well as access to some of the latest technology and equipment. With a team of resident medical officers available 24hours a day, the hospital provides an ideal environment for excellent clinical care and patient recovery.
