BMI Ross Hall Hospital is Scotland’s largest independent acute care hospital providing a sophisticated and integrated diagnostic imaging service. 

Operated by a team of highly skilled, professionally accredited radiographers, mammographers, specialist nurses and specialist consultant radiologists the diagnostic imaging services at Ross Hall Hospital includes:

  • X-ray including orthopantomography (specialised panoramic dental imaging)
  • Ultrasound
  • Breast imaging including mammography
  • Multi-slice CT scanning
  • MRI scanning
  • Interventional radiology including fibroid embolisation

Results are typically available within 24 hours to allow facilitate fast diagnosis and treatment.  Diagnostic imaging reports are available to the referrer within 48 hours of the examination. Urgent reports available on a same day basis.

Appointments can be made from 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday.


Diagnostic ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging modality using high frequency sound waves to produce images of various soft tissue structures within the body. A wide range of high quality images can be produced of the following areas:

  • Urology including trans-rectal examinations and biopsy of the prostate

Breast Imaging

The Breast Imaging/intervention package supports Ross Hall Hospital’s Fast Track Breast Care Service which provides all the above procedures in one single visit if required.

MRI Scanning

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become an invaluable tool in the detection and monitoring of many diseases. It uses a combination of strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the body, without the risk of ionising radiation and with minimum discomfort to the patient.

MRI scanning can be used to produce images of almost any part of the body and can produce images from all angles.

MRI scans can show muscles, joints, bone marrow, blood vessels, nerves and other structures within your body, MRI examinations available include:

CT Scanning

BMI Ross Hall Hospital boasts the only 320 slice CT scanner in clinical use in Scotland.

CT scanning is a sophisticated diagnostic tool which provides detailed images of various structures within the body. The CT scanner can take multi-slice CT images of the whole heart and coronary arteries, all in a single breathold.

The CT scanner benefits from high resolution imaging capability producing excellent image quality, a larger scanner diameter with faster scanning to help reduce the effects of claustrophobia, assist with patient comfort and improve the overall patient experience.
