The centre is staffed by dedicated, accredited radiographers and specialist nurses, and specialist consultant radiologists who report on all images and scans. The results are typically available within 24 hours, urgent reports are available and faxed on the same day.
The imaging centre offers:
- General radiography
- Digital mammography
- 128 Multislice CT, including CT Coronary Angiography
Referral to the centre is by a referral form from a medical practitioner, supplies of which can be requested from the clinic.
Our dedicated general x-ray room deals with all basic x-ray procedures including orthopaedic radiography, intravenous and urography. All images taken are scanned into our computed radiography archive system and digital (CD) images are available.
The mammography unit is staffed by fully accredited radiographers. The unit offers general mammography as well as more specialised views. The unit is fully equipped for digital stereotactic localisation to aid biopsy and fine needle aspiration of soft tissue lesions.
A full range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations are available at the centre. These range from general abdomen and pelvic, obstetric and gynaecological studies, follicular tracking, soft tissue joints and breast imaging. We also provide specialist scanning ranging from cardiac studies such as echocardiography and transoesophageal echo to colour doppler flow studies of vessels.Ultrasound guided transrectal prostatic biopsies, breast biopsies and drainage procedures are also undertaken by our consultants.
3/4D baby bonding scans are also available by appointment.
Multi-slice dual source CT Scanner
Our 128 slice CT scanner is equipped with two x-ray producing tubes making it one of the fastest CT scanners available. It is capable of very rapid 2D scans of all areas of the body with scan widths down to 0.6mm, this means minimised discomfort for our patients due to very short scanning times.
The scan also produces very detailed 3D images of the whole body including moving organs, bone and blood vessels. Due to the dual source technology we can visualise the whole of the heart and coronary arteries within one single heartbeat.
We also carry out other techniques such as virtual colonoscopy, angiography for neck, brain, renal and peripheral vessels. Procedures to aid stroke assessment are also available.
Cardiac Imaging is performed for Calcium Scoring, which is recommended by NICE as a vital step in diagnosing chest pain. CT Coronary Artery Angiography is also performed.
MRI has become an invaluable tool in detection and monitoring of many diseases.
MRI uses a combination of strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce exquisitely detailed images of any part of the body.
MRI is generally safe and can be used for most age groups. Our top of the range MRI scanner is equipped with a full range of dedicated coils and software packages.
The dedicated coil arrangements allow us to carry out examinations of all body areas including:
- All joints
- Heart and Cardiac Perfusion including stress studies
- Small Bowel
- Angiography – including brain, carotid, renal, peripheral and cardiac
- CT scanning
- MRI scanning
