Last week team members from across The Beaumont Hospital donned their running gear to take part in an anti-gravity marathon, all in aid of Sport Relief.
The unique AlterG anti-gravity treadmill is a rehabilitation treadmill used to reduce stress on injuries and joints in the lower body. The AlterG can help patients to rehabilitate safely with less pain and reduce the risk of re-injury. The ability to reduce your body weight meant the treadmill was the perfect piece of equipment to enable runners of all abilities across the hospital to participate in the charity marathon.
A mix of clinical and admin team members, many who aren’t frequent runners, signed up to the challenge and between them took on the 26.2 miles. Over the course of a few of days, on their lunch breaks and between patient appointments, the runners visited the physiotherapy department to complete their stint on the AlterG treadmill.
In addition to the anti-gravity marathon, The Beaumont Hospital hosted a healthy lunch buffet and a bumper raffle. Keeping in the spirit of Sport Relief, which raises money to help vulnerable people in both the UK and the world's poorest countries, the raffle prizes were all health and fitness related.
In total a fantastic £534.75 was raised for Sport Relief. Thank you to everyone who took part, sponsored the runners, donated prizes and purchased raffle tickets. The money raised will go a long way in supporting the incredible projects backed by Sport Relief.
