Hannah Dyer

Executive Director,
BMI The Blackheath Hospital

My mantra is why be good when you can be outstanding

Hannah, can you tell us a little about yourself, background and current role?

I qualified as a Physiotherapist in 2002, and worked in the NHS for 7 years, prior to joining BMI. I have worked in private healthcare since 2009 in various roles and have managed theatres, outpatients and non-clinical departments. I love to learn and develop and have recently completed an MSc in Executive Management at Ashridge Business School.

I am a mother of a toddler, and cherish my family time, and relax by spending time outdoors with my gang.

Describe a typical day/week at BMI The Blackheath Hospital for you?

There is no such thing as a typical day. My day is in part driven by strategic initiatives in developing new opportunities for the hospital but also operational tasks both routine and the unplanned. It is the latter that makes the role challenging and reflects the nature of health – which is what makes the profession interesting.

What aspects of your role do you enjoy the most?

I love my role, and enjoy challenging the status quo and developing innovative and best in class patient focused services. My mantra is ‘Why be good when you can be outstanding?’ and I believe people are at the centre of all we do, from the patient, to our consultant colleagues and of course our team.

How does your role benefit the patients at The Blackheath Hospital?

I have a great team at The Blackheath Hospital. My role is to create the vision ensuring it aligns to the corporate objectives and then steering the business to achieve the outcomes all the stakeholders require.

What do you hope to achieve at The Blackheath Hospital?

My two year goal is lead an outstanding Hospital in terms of CQC rating, and staff and patient satisfaction. I believe Blackheath will be the hospital of choice for the local demographic and pay a big part in the healthcare economy. I am also looking to introduce some new services which I believe are currently unmet by the existing health providers in the region.

What activities do you enjoy outside of work?

I am a home girl and love spending time with my Family, we love to be outdoors, exploring and making mischief with my little one!

I have recently taken up golf, which I am finding fun and challenging in equal measures, but am determined to master it.

I am delighted to working at Blackheath, with our fantastic team, and look forward to developing the service.

Thanks for your time, Hannah.
