Can you tell us a little about yourself, background and current role?
Describe a typical day/week at BMI Blackheath Hospital for you?
There is no typical week for me, that's one of the things I love!
Essentially I care for patients and their families when they have received a cancer diagnosis.
That may be delivering chemotherapy, sitting in on Consultant clinics, assessing unwell patients or providing telephone support.
What aspects of your role do you enjoy the most?
I love the interaction that I have with the patients and their carers. Being faced with challenging situations and, I hope, dealing with them quickly and compassionately always putting the patient at the centre of what I do.
How does your role benefit the patients at The Blackheath Hospital?
Guess you'd have to ask them that!
I hope that I can provide them with the support that they need when they need it, but with the experience that I have I am sometimes able to offer them answers for things that they are struggling with.
What has been your biggest achievement at The Blackheath Hospital?
Setting up a patient support group with my Breast care nurse Leanne and also running HOPE courses to enable patients to self-manage in the new normal life they face after a cancer diagnosis
What activities do you enjoy outside of work?
I have 2 sports mad children so when I am not at work you can normally find me on a sports field of some description!
Thanks for your time, Kelly.
