Shoulder arthroscopy starting from £5,031*

This is a form of minimally invasive keyhole surgery performed to diagnose and treat a range of shoulder problems. Shoulder arthroscopy surgery includes several types of surgery, including:

Arthroscopic subacromial decompression surgery: This is a procedure whereby the surface underneath your acromion (the outer part of your shoulder blade) is shaved down, allowing your rotator cuff tendon (a tendon in your shoulder) to move more freely, reducing pain and stiffness in turn.

Arthroscopic capsular release: This is a procedure whereby your shoulder joint lining is released, helping you move your shoulder.

Shoulder manipulation surgery: Shoulder manipulation is a non-surgical procedure performed under anaesthetic to reduce pain and stiffness in your shoulder.

Shoulder replacement surgery from £11,895*

This is a form of surgery to replace and remove the damaged and painful areas of your shoulder with artificial components, known as prosthesis.

Shoulder manipulation under anaesthetic from £2,060*

Chronic pain and stiffness in your shoulder (often induced by frozen shoulder) can interfere with simple everyday activities. Fortunately, shoulder manipulation helps treat chronic pain and stiffness of the shoulder by stretching and releasing your shoulder capsule.

*This is a guide price for treatment when paying for yourself. The initial consultation and diagnostics are not included in the price. Prices are confirmed in writing after initial consultation with a Consultant Specialist. Aftercare may vary depending on your treatment. Further terms and conditions apply.

There are many reasons why you might need shoulder surgery, including:

• Frozen shoulder;
• Osteoarthritis;
• Rheumatoid arthritis;
• Shoulder bursitis;
• A broken or dislocated shoulder, and
• Rotator cuff tear.

At The London Independent Hospital, you can book your initial consultation with the Consultant of your choice at a time that suits you.

Remember, you are at the heart of your care. This is your opportunity to ask your Consultant any questions about your symptoms and share any concerns you might have about your health.

We’re here to listen.

At your initial consultation, your Orthopaedic Surgeon will ask detailed questions about your medical history and symptoms, including when your symptoms first started and how they affect your daily activity. They will also perform a physical examination of your shoulder.

Your Consultant might want to investigate your symptoms further by performing an X-ray, MRI or CT scan. We use cutting-edge, modern technology to help reach your diagnosis quickly and without hassle.

After your Consultant has confirmed your diagnosis, they will be able to discuss your tailored treatment plan in detail. They will also provide in-depth information on any physiotherapy exercises you might need to perform before and after surgery, which you will work on with your Physiotherapist.

If your shoulder pain has become debilitating, preventing you from performing everyday activities and enjoying life as you deserve, you might require shoulder replacement surgery.

On the day of your operation, you will either be administered general anaesthetic or a local anaesthetic injected into your shoulder.

Your surgery can either be performed as open surgery or an arthroscopy.

During an arthroscopy, your Orthopaedic Surgeon will make small incisions across your shoulder. They will then pass an arthroscope (a thin tube containing a camera) through one of these incisions to see your shoulder joint. Your surgeon will then remove your painful shoulder joint and replace it with a prosthesis.

Your incisions) will be closed with stitches that will either dissolve over time or need to be removed at your next follow-up appointment.

Your healthcare team will ensure you are consistently informed throughout each stage of your healthcare journey, from your initial consultation right through to your recovery.
