ENT surgeons diagnose and provide treatment for conditions that concern the ears, nose and throat.
Whether you have tonsillitis, blocked sinuses or are concerned about your child’s ears; our consultant ENT surgeons will provide you with a quick diagnosis and personalised treatment plan.
We offer the following ENT services and treatments at The Park:
Sinus surgery is for patients with sore and chronically blocked sinuses. When your nose is blocked, your sinuses can no longer drain and as a result you may experience severe headaches and a loss of taste or smell.
The procedure to clear the sinus opening is called a maxillary antrostomy.
If you have tonsillitis, on a regular basis, our specialist ENT consultants may recommend tonsillectomy surgery to remove the infected tonsils. For children, a tonsillectomy is recommended if they have had at least four cases of tonsillitis each year, for two years in a row. However, adults can have a tonsillectomy earlier, as attacks tend to be more severe.
The thyroid gland produces a hormone called thyroxine that regulates the body's metabolism. If the thyroid gland becomes swollen an ENT consultant may recommend thyroid surgery.
Thyroid surgery is also used to correct an overactive thyroid which can cause anxiety, irritability, and difficulty sleeping, swelling, fatigue and even weight loss.
Sleep and snoring treatments
Disrupted sleep, or sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, depression and heart disease, and is most commonly affected by snoring.
Our consultants may recommend surgery on your nose or throat to reduce your snoring, through techniques that use radiofrequency to reshape the throat and palate to treat snoring.
If you have a blocked nose it may be due to the septum – the cartilage and bone that separates the two sides of the nasal cavity. A septoplasty is a surgery that corrects problems with the nasal septum including sports injuries.
Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, can change the shape and appearance of your nose. Surgery can be performed inside the nose or on the bridge, to change the shape of the nose for cosmetic reasons, or following injury. Cartilage may be removed to make the nose smaller.
A nasal endoscopy is used to view inside the sinus passages and the throat. You may need a nasal endoscopy if you are experiencing pain or discomfort in the nose and throat, ear pain or regular nose bleeds. An ENT surgeon will use an endoscope, a tube with a built-in camera, to determine your diagnosis and suitable treatment.
The Park Hospital provides ENT healthcare for children and young people from birth within our outpatient department, and surgical procedures for ages 12 and above. For more information about our paediatric services visit our dedicated page.
Paediatric ENT services include:
Glue ear can affect your child’s hearing as the ear becomes blocked with a sticky fluid. Once diagnosed an ENT surgeon may recommend inserting grommets which are tiny plastic tubes, through the eardrum, to allow the fluid to drain.
Adenoids are small lumps of tissue that can be found at the back of the nose, above the roof of the mouth in children. Unfortunately, a child's adenoids may become swollen or enlarged due to an allergic reaction or a bacterial or viral infection.
In most cases, swollen adenoids only cause mild discomfort. However, for some children it can cause severe pain and in this instance an ENT consultant can provide you with suitable treatment options for your child.
