Can you tell us a little about yourself, background and current role?
I have worked at BMI for 18 years and have worked in an operational capacity in hospitals, as well as a corporate role.
I understand the need for all functions within BMI to work as a team so that we as an organisation, we provide our patients with quality healthcare.
My current role is Director of Operations at the Park Hospital, where I am part of the hospital Senior Management team working closely with the hospital Executive Director and Director of Clinical Services.
I am responsible for all the non clinical services, managing them effectively and efficiently, whilst delivering high quality hospital services to all our patients.
All the individual roles and the teams at BMI The Park Hospital work together to provide safe quality care
Describe a typical day/week at BMI The Park Hospital for you?
I find there are no typical days/weeks in hospital operations. The diversity of the role and that we are in a people business provides a variety of challenges.
Of course, there is and needs to be structure to the day/week and the objectives you are aiming to achieve are the focus so that we provide our customers with high quality service.
The hospital is currently upgrading several services and infrastructure of the building and managing key elements of these programmes is a major focus at present and will continue to be for the next 9 months.
What aspects of your role do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy being able to add value to the patient experience and striving for continuous improvement in what we provide them. Development of the services we offer and the teams that provide these services are something that I get a lot of satisfaction from.
How does your role benefit the patients at The Park Hospital?
I am a firm believer that no individual role on its own benefits the patients and our patients at the Park Hospital.
I have been a part of a team that has delivered an improved patient pathway experience
It may sound a little bit cliché, but all the individual roles and the teams working together to provide safe quality care is what we aim to achieve.
What has been your biggest achievement at The Park Hospital?
I don't particularly believe in big achievements. I believe to embed an improvement, you need to plan thoroughly so that when the change or improvement is put in place, it is robust and that it is the team that deliver the improvement consistently. The patient pathway experience has improved in my time at the Park hospital and I have been a part of the team that has delivered this.
What activities do you enjoy outside of work?
Outside of work I have a couple of horses that I look after and enjoy riding. Staying on the back of a horse is an achievement in my view and I generally manage that, so long may that continue!
Thanks for your time, Gary.
