Following this clinical history, they will carry out a physical examination of the affected area of your skin with a dermatoscope, a specialist device allowing intricate analysis of moles or skin lesions. Your consultant will then let you know if you require any additional diagnostic tests. These may involve:

• Blood tests
• Mole Check – Involving a top-to-toe dermoscopic assessment of all your moles and any suspicious mole is then promptly removed and sent for histology (evaluation under microscope).
• Allergy testing – helping to highlight the specific substances that may trigger an allergic reaction
• Biopsy – a small tissue sample taken from the affected area of your skin, sent to the labs for analysis, helping to identify the type of skin complaint or cancer/

Any other tests can then be arranged if appropriate. Once a diagnosis has been confirmed, you will have a follow-up appointment to discuss your treatment options, which are personalised to your specific diagnosis and your goals for recovery.

Certain conditions may require a surgical approach in treatment. This may include:
