People in Chertsey with suspected internal medical problems can now have their diagnosis closer to home, with an investment in new equipment at BMI The Runnymede Hospital.
Whereas until now people needed to travel to their nearest BMI Healthcare hospital - BMI Mt Alvernia in Guildford – for camera-assisted internal examinations, now they will be able to have their concerns assessed by a specialist closer to home.
For Mr Pasha Nisar, Consultant General and Colorectal surgeon at The Runnymede, the investment in a new array of endoscope cameras and equipment represents a significant enhancement to the service he is able to offer from the private hospital in Guildford Road, Chertsey.
“The new endoscopy equipment at the Runnymede allows clinicians to provide the highest level of diagnostic and therapeutic expertise to patients. It secures the Runnymede as a leading private care centre for patients in Surrey with suspected bowel and gastric malignancy, benign disorders and gastrointestinal conditions providing diagnostic facilities, surgical and medical treatment at our site,” he said.
“We can only see so much from outside the body – an endoscope gives us the ability to not only see what the issue may be but also guide us to take biopsy samples for testing.”
The new equipment will be used by a number of consultants at the hospital to help patients with suspected gut, bowel, gynaecological, lung, heart and blood vessel concerns.
John Donovan, executive director of the hospital, said: “This investment by our parent company, BMI Healthcare, will provide a real benefit to our patients for an easy access to a fast diagnosis, and to our consultants as it means they have essential equipment at their fingertips. We’ve worked together to ensure that BMI The Runnymede Hospital is equipped for our growing number of patients.”
