Our hospitals offer a large range of procedures and services that don’t require overnight stay. These could be a simple consultation with the consultant, a diagnostic test, minor surgery or a follow up appointment.
Before your appointment
Once your appointment is confirmed, you will receive a letter that will give you all the specific information about your procedure, e.g. whether you need to fast beforehand, or about bringing any scans or results. Please bring this letter with you on the day.
Depending on your procedure you might need to arrive 10-20 minutes early, to allow our team to get you ready or carry out any necessary tests such as measuring your weight, taking your blood pressure or taking a urine sample.
It is advised that you wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment.
You can bring a member of your family or a friend with you to your appointment. They can wait for you in our cafes or reception areas.
During your appointment
The GP will share your record with us prior to your appointment but be prepared to answer questions about your history and the problems you are experiencing.
Please let the consultant know if you are pregnant, if you are suffering from any allergies or if you are taking any medication (including homeopathic remedies).
If you are taking any medication, it’s best to bring them with you, along with the prescription if you still have it.
Your consultant should explain:
- What might be wrong
- If you need to take any tests
- What is the best treatment for you
- What happens next
If you are getting a procedure or treatment done on the day, you will have your own private room so you can recover in a comfortable, quiet environment.
The consultant and nurses will monitor you and will decide when it’s the best time to leave.
After your appointment
Your consultant will tell you whether you need to come for a follow up appointment or if you require further tests, as well as when to expect your results back.
Depending on the procedure you’ve had, you should make arrangements for someone to pick you up and take you home, especially if you had a treatment or procedure done. We are happy to arrange a taxi for you if needed.
