Hip replacement at BMI Goring Hall Hospital
Consultant: Mr Nirav Shah, Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon
Bill suffered from severe arthritis in his right hip. The pain restricted his movements so significantly that he had to walk with a stick and relied on his wife a lot. Bill had given up all hope of playing tennis, cycling and going on skiing holidays.
A grandfather of three, Bill decided to have a hip replacement procedure because the pain was greatly affecting his quality of life. During the operation the arthritic hip joint was removed and replaced with a ceramic hip.
The operation lasted for just an hour and he was only in hospital for four days. Amazingly, Bill was back driving in six weeks and playing tennis within six months.
Bill no longer needs walking sticks; he now has full use of his hip and leg and is enjoying an active life again.
"My lifestyle is vastly different - the constant pain is no longer there and I’m doing very well," commented Bill.
