About us

Thornbury Hospital serves patients in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and surrounding areas,  offering fast access to specialist consultants, usually within 48 hours, for diagnosis and treatment with some of the latest technology and equipment.

 We pride ourselves on delivering the best patient experience possible, supported by a dedicated team of healthcare professionals and access to modern facilities.  We see patients for a  broad range of conditions  including but not limited to Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Gynaecology, Urology, Cancer Care, General Surgery, Cosmetic Surgery and Paediatrics.

There is free on-site parking for patients and visitors.  Thornbury has 64 private en-suite rooms,  an on-site pharmacy, a modern physiotherapy gym and state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging facilities housed in our dedicated Scanning Centre.

With continual investment into the facilities at Thornbury Hospital, a brand new Ambulatory Care Unit has been built, offering a modern, private environment for minor procedures and the JAG-accredited endoscopy service for patients requiring gastroscopy, colonoscopy, urological and gynaecology daycase procedures.
Thornbury  Cancer Care Unit situated on Rivelin Ward is home to Sheffield Oncology (LINK: Private Cancer Care & Treatment | Sheffield Oncology), and has held the MacMillan Quality Environment Mark (MQEM) accreditation since 2016 for the high quality, holistic care offered in the service.

Patients can access Thornbury Hospital’s services through private medical insurance or by self-paying. Referrals from GP’s are accepted, and insured patients should always check details with their insurance provider before attending any appointments. Many patients can self-refer and book online to see a consultant of their choice at a time and date to suit their lifestyles.

Car

From M1 junction 33, take A57 Sheffield parkway towards City Centre. After passing Matalan keep in the right hand lane and take the Cutlers Gate/Derek Dooley Way exit signposted Sheffield Central Hospitals/University. Continue on Derek Dooley Way. After passing Tesco, which is on the right hand side of the dual carriageway, bear left past the Sheffield Court. Go straight across at the roundabout, passing West Bar Central Police station. Take the 3rd exit at the next roundabout (BMW Garage) and continue up the hill. Go straight over next roundabout on A625 to Glossop passing Sheffield Childrens Hospital and Weston Park Hospital on left. Keep in the left hand lane through 3 sets of traffic lights in Broomhill shopping area. Thornbury Hospital is approximately a quarter of a mile on the right (just past the large building site).

From Chesterfield take A61 Dronfield bypass towards Sheffield City centre. At roundabout (transport Recreation Ground on left) turn left then immediate right, A61 signposted Hathersage/Castleton. At next roundabout turn left past Beauchief Golf Course. Continue straight through traffic lights at Beauchief Hotel. Take second right up the hill past St Lukes Hospice to Traffic lights. Turn right onto Ecclesall Road, signposted Sheffield City Centre. Continue past Hallamshire Squash Club to Hunters Bar roundabout and take a left turn up Brocco Bank towards Hallamshire Hospital. Passing Botanical Gardens on right, turn left at lights, left at next lights onto A57 towards Glossop. At next lights, opposite Somerfield, turn left onto Fulwood Road, keeping in the left hand lane. Continue through the lights passing the Holiday Inn on the right. Thornbury Hospital is approximately ¼ mile on the right.

From Sheffield Midland Station, Thornbury Hospital is approximately 10 minutes by taxi.
