What are foot orthotics, knee orthotics and back orthotics?
Orthotics is the profession that deals with the external support of the body and encompasses both neuro-muscular and muscular-skeletal problems suffered by patients. The patient may require support to any segment of the body which suffers from a mechanical dysfunction, such as the foot, knee or back for example. The brace is called an Orthosis (sometimes referred to as a surgical appliance).
How does it work?
Patients can be referred via a GP, Consultant or self referral.

Realignment of the musculoskeletal system is a conservative form of treatment that typically reduces the pain symptoms by re-aligning the joints to enable a more effective gait pattern and reducing rotational forces this helps reduce pain along with weight distribution and shock-attenuation.
How safe is the treatment?
The provision of foot orthotics, knee orthotics or back orthotics is non invasive and is applied to the body externally.
Paying for your procedure
Foot orthotics, back orthotics, knee orthotics costs may not be covered by most medical insurance policies, but please check with your insurer first. If you are paying for your own procedure the cost will be explained and confirmed in writing when you book the procedure. Ask the hospital for a quote beforehand, and ensure that this includes the surgeon’s fee, the anaesthetist’s fee and the hospital charge for your procedure.
