Nerves are commonly damaged in trauma, cancer surgery or other conditions including some birth anomalies. 

What does nerve reconstruction involve?

Treatment involves a range of techniques including freeing up of scarred nerves, microsurgical direct repair of the nerve if this is possible, if this is not possible microsurgical nerve grafting can be carried out or the transfer of donor nerves into functionally important areas. 

What are the benefits of nerve reconstruction?

Improvement or eradication of nerve pain, increased sensation, restoration of function.  This particular category includes the microsurgical removal of tumours from nerves.  Safety – good.
