Schema therapy

Schema Therapy is an evidence based approach for creating change in the personality dynamics of individuals with chronic emotional and relationship problems. It usually lasts for at least 12 months and is most commonly used with chronic psychological issues. 

It works on the premise that there are childhood origins to psychological problems and uses an integrative approach to therapy by combining aspects of cognitive, behavioural, psychodynamic and attachment models. As with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) cognitions and behaviours are considered to be important but the use of experiential techniques such as visualisation, monitoring of emotional change and the therapy relationship itself are all central aspects of the treatment.
