Release of Stiff Elbow

Release of stiff elbow is a surgical procedure which aims to increase elbow flexibility.

What is release of stiff elbow?

Release of stiff elbow is a surgical procedure which aims to increase elbow flexibility.

What causes stiff elbow?

Stiff elbow occurs as a result of elbow injuries and sometimes elbow arthritis. Repetitive movement, such as from playing certain sports, can also cause stiff elbow.

If you have arthritis in the elbow or regularly suffer from a stiff elbow joint (to the extent that it is difficult to move and causes pain), you may be a candidate for release of stiff elbow surgery.

What will happen during my release of stiff elbow consultation?

When you meet with your consultant surgeon they'll discuss with you what'll happen before, during and after the procedure and any pain you might have. You will also have the chance to have any of your questions answered. Take this time with your consultant surgeon to ensure your mind is put at rest.

How does release of stiff elbow work?

This surgery is performed by cutting either the outer side of the elbow or the back of the elbow. It involves removing all the scar tissue and sometimes spurs of the bone (this is bony growth which has formed on normal bone) in order to allow the elbow to be more flexible.

What are the benefits of release of stiff elbow?

The benefit of receiving this stiff elbow treatment is that it should result in reduced pain and allow you to move your elbow more freely.

What are the risks of release of stiff elbow?

Your consultant will go through any risks as these will vary, depending on the individual.
