Revision Elbow Replacement
Revision elbow replacement is performed if an elbow replacement becomes worn out or loose.
What is revision elbow replacement?
Revision elbow replacement is performed if an elbow replacement becomes worn out or loose. Elbow replacements usually need to be replaced around every ten years but for some patients this is required sooner.
Patients with a replaced elbow may suffer damage or dislodgement to their replaced elbow, and need a revision elbow replacement as a result
How does revision elbow replacement work?
Your consultant will make a cut on the back of your elbow and remove the elbow joint that is present and replace it with a new artificial elbow joint.
What will happen during my revision elbow replacement consultation?
When you meet with your consultant surgeon they'll ensure that you have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about your revision elbow replacement, they'll discuss with you what'll happen before, during and after the procedure and any pain you might have. Take this time with your consultant surgeon to ensure your mind is put at rest.
What are the benefits of revision elbow replacement?
The benefits of this type of surgery are that you should have reduced pain and may obtain improved elbow movement. The results may not be as good as the first replacement but your consultant will go through this with you in further detail.
