Chief Executive Officer
Karen joined BMI Healthcare in October 2017 as Chief Executive Officer, having previously held a number of senior roles within Netcare in South Africa.
As a Netcare Regional Director she was responsible for 23 hospitals with a combined 2,800 beds. Most recently she commissioned a 425 bed Public Private Partnership unit and 4 primary care facilities - the largest of its type in Africa - and engineered critical relationships with the Ministries of Health and Finance, the World Bank and the Development Bank of South Africa.
Karen has the benefit of understanding healthcare from both sides of the coin: she's been a practising clinician and has extensive hands-on operational experience of running clinics, hospitals and regions. Karen achieved her MBChB, a Masters General Practice (MPax Med) cum laude at Pretoria University and her MBA (cum laude) through the same university. Karen also holds a project management qualification.
Chief Financial Officer
Henry brings with him a remarkable international track record of success in the media, industrial and regulated sectors. He joins us from Mecom Group plc, the listed pan-European newspaper group, where he was Group Finance Director, a position he has held since 2009.
Having achieved a first in English Literature from the University of York, Henry trained as an accountant with Price Waterhouse, after which he held a series of senior financial roles including Group Financial Controller at DS Smith plc and Eastern Group plc.
National Director of Clinical Services
Liz Sharp has been with BMI Healthcare for 20 years and was appointed National Director of Clinical Services in March. As you know Liz is, by training, a nurse and has a strong operational and clinical background having held numerous roles including Regional Director, Hospital Executive Director, Director of Nursing & Quality Manager.
Liz and her team will continue to ensure we always put the patient at the centre of what we do and that we clearly demonstrate that we offer a consistent and safe level of care in all our sites. Liz will lead the clinical team in continually striving to improve what we do and remaining focused on the objectives of delivering the best patient outcome and the best patient experience in a cost effective way.
National Director of People, Performance & Quality
Robin was appointed in March and was previously on the Executive Board at Ramsay Health Care. Robin has substantial experience in Risk Management, Human Resources, Organisational Development, Health and Safety, Wellbeing, and Clinical Services. She also has a strong operational background, an MBA and allied health qualifications.
General Counsel and Company Secretary
Cathy joined BMI as Senior Legal Advisor in 2005 and was appointed General Counsel and Company Secretary in June 2011. Prior to BMI, Cathy was a Senior Lawyer at the specialist healthcare law firm, Capsticks, and acted for a number of organisations, including NHS bodies and private healthcare companies. Her experience of a broad range of issues including commercial transactions, procurement and regulation and governance is invaluable to BMI.
Cathy, who holds a degree in Jurisprudence from Oxford University, will lead her team in supporting the business across a wide spectrum of operational and organisational issues.
Director of Capital Investment
Having begun his career in the NHS, Justin initially joined BMI Healthcare from EY’s Healthcare practice in 2010 and has run three of its Hospitals. Following nearly three years at Alliance Medical Limited where he sat on its UK Board, Justin re-joined BMI Healthcare in 2016 as Director of Capital Investment before then joining the Executive Committee in 2017.
His responsibilities include capital investment and new service development as well as developing the Group’s diagnostics portfolio.
Chief Digital Officer
Paul joined BMI as CDO in October 2016 to transform our processes and technology platforms and ensure the best digital experience for all of our users and patients. Paul has over 23 years experience in leadership and transformational change with previous roles such as CIO, COO and CDO within the Corporate and public/not for profit sectors.
Paul has executive responsibility for the IT, Programme Office, Digital and Sales and Marketing teams here at BMI and is a great advocate for the digital patient journey using technology now familiar in lots of other industries which could bring transformational change to healthcare.
